So this year I decided to skip out on the AP History and just take regular History. Let me tell you, it is so great and so not at the same time.
First my teacher gets off topic ALL the time and its great when you don't want to learn but if you're not in the mood you just sit there and grumble for five minutes until he's done with one story.
Second, some people do not even listen to what they are saying. There have been some things said in there that keep me laughing for days. I'll give you a few examples. And this is all true. People actually said this.
"What is the biggest state in the United States?" Mr Mcgee asked the class.
"Russia!" one girl shouted so sure in her answer. I think only a few heard her because at the same time I was shouting "Alaska." Mr. Mcgee either didn't hear her or was ignoring the stupidness of her answer. Sorry I love you girl but Russia really?? Is it even NEAR the United States?? Seriously. Everyone on my side of the room laughed at her and she got embarassed but how can you help but laugh at her?
Second thing that happened a few days later.
"So where is Washington in California?" a boy asked me.
"Uhhh... Which Washington?"
"There's two?!?"
"Yea. Washington State and Washington DC. Neither is in California though." I said incredulous.
"Where are they?"
"Well Washington DC is on the East coast near New York kinda."
"Okay I think I know where that is. And the second?" he asked.
"The state is right above us, a few states away."
"Wow I never knew that."
"Yep. Get it now?" I asked.
"Yes. But are we in California or the United States?" he asked. (NO JOKE!)
"What? Really?"
"Oh I guess I just answered my own question. California is in the Unites States right? haha." Then as I'm hitting my head with my hand he asks...
"What are the colonies?"
"The 13 colonies?" I ask.
"Yea."
"They are the original colonies that travelled from Britian to America for various reasons. We've been learning about them for a few weeks now."
"Oh okay. But where are they in comparison to the States?"
"They are now the states."
"But where are the colonies."
"They are gone. They are now the 13 states we have."
"Really?! They are states just like that? Where are they?" (you just can't help but laugh at this point in time.)
"Remember the test we took two days ago?"
"Yea..."
"Those were the thirteen colonies. Now they are states once we gained independence."
"So they are part of the 54 states?"
"54?"
"Yea."
"Maybe the 50 states?"
"Oh right. There's only 50. Haha. where did I get 54 from? haha."
Yes. This really happened. I love regular history just for this reason. It keeps me going in that class. I laugh about it for days after with the girl who sits next to me who gets the bulk of these conversations. I have been lucky enough to get two conversations like thus. Gosh it is good.
And yes this is all fact! I love it. I wouldn't trade it for anything. =)
